Skaggs-Walsh Family History: Multi-Generational Commitment to Quality
In 1933, Norris Skaggs and Stanley Walsh saw their community growing fast and seized the opportunity to cultivate a clean, comfortable New York City for generations to come. And so their work began. Partnering with local tradespeople, they modernized their city, one oil burner at a time. They built a trusted brand, served their community, and transformed NYC from old-fashioned coal to clean, modern oil heat.
It was in the 1950s that Fred Heaney purchased Skaggs-Walsh, which he ran until 1960, growing the company’s heating oil customer base and continuing to prove the level of quality and great customer service his family would deliver for over half a century after his acquisition.
Fred’s son, Peter Heaney, took over in 1960. Under his leadership, the company doubled in size when it acquired Sunrise Oil in 1980, at which time the headquarters were moved from Long Island City to College Point. Skaggs-Walsh remains in this location today, along with a 400,000-gallon oil terminal built to ensure Skaggs-Walsh customers would never go without.
In 1994, Peter Heaney passed, and left the company to his daughter and sales manager, Allison Heaney. Under her leadership, several more acquisitions followed, increasing the company's service library to include HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and pest control. These acquisitions also established a presence in Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Nassau, Western Suffolk, and Southern Westchester.
Today, the fourth generation of the Heaney family is taking up leadership roles in Skaggs-Walsh. Under their mother Allison’s guidance, Elizabeth Rose and Peter Panacciulli are continuing the family legacy in providing trusted, reliable service to homeowners in New York.
As the business flourished, it remained steadfast in its commitment to NYC and its people — our neighbors, friends, and family. It continued to contribute to the community, providing the same high standard of customer service and quality work all across NYC and Long Island. More than 90 years after introducing New Yorkers to the benefits of oil heat, Skaggs-Walsh is still discovering new ways to help its customers get the most value for their hard-earned dollars.

Our Own Storage Facility
Skaggs-Walsh owns and operates its own state-of-the-art oil storage facility, which can store up to 400,000 gallons of greener, more efficient Bioheat® fuel. Thus, we’ll have a constant supply of top-grade oil heat, no matter how long and cold the winter is. In fact, over our 90 years in business, we’ve never run out of oil and have always been able to deliver to our customers.
Having our own storage facility helps keep your prices down, too. That’s because when we buy in bulk, we pass the savings on to you! Not every oil heat dealer has its own storage facility, but here at Skaggs-Walsh, it’s one more way we go the extra mile to serve you better.
