NY Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP)
Everyone deserves the chance to stay warm and safe through the heating season – that’s where HEAP comes in. HEAP is a federally-funded program that assists eligible households in meeting their home energy needs.
Low-income New York households may qualify for assistance through HEAP. Those who are eligible may receive a regular HEAP benefit (one per season) to help them afford to keep the heat on during the coldest of nights. There are also emergency HEAP benefits, which may be able to help out those who are in danger of running out of fuel or having their utility service shut off.
The application period for HEAP benefits begins in early to mid-November and continues into the winter, until the funding for the program runs out. Check your eligibility, apply for benefits, create and manage your own account and find out if you qualify for assistance this heating season on the MyBenefits website.
