How to Tell When Your Air Conditioning System is Ready for Retirement

Just as athletes show signs of slowing down as they age, your air conditioning system can, too! Your cooling equipment might start making new noises, struggle to keep you cool, and begin costing you more on the utility front when it exceeds 10 years of operation. While athletes last longer than a decade, your air conditioning equipment might be in need of an upgrade!

Here’s what you should look for when it comes to determining if your AC is in need of an upgrade:

  • Rising Utility Bills: As equipment ages, its efficiency diminishes. It uses more energy in order to provide the same amount of comfort it’s been providing. This results in noticeably increasing annual energy bills

  • Strange Noises: Under normal operation, all equipment makes noise. However, over time these noises might become louder than normal and stick out among the ambient noises of your home. When the clanging, banging and squeaking seem more frequent, it could be a result of aging.

  • Poor Humidity Control: If the air in your home is suddenly unbearably humid, your air conditioning system could be failing to properly remove moisture from the air. Not only is excess moisture bad for your home, but it’ll leave you feeling warmer and turning up the AC.

  • Still Using R-22 Refrigerant: R-22 refrigerant has been found to harm the ozone layer when released into the atmosphere, and since 2010 has been replaced by R-410A refrigerant – a much cleaner and more environmentally friendly refrigerant. If your equipment still uses R-22 refrigerant, it’ll be more costly to recharge the system if it should need it since it’s in short supply.

Don’t put up with rising costs, frequent repairs, and poor humidity control. Find optimal comfort by upgrading your air conditioning system for the summer! Contact us online today to discuss your options and improve your home comfort.
